A few days ago, sculptures of dogs variously decorated sprouted up on the Magnificent Mile of Chicago, reminiscent of the painted horses three years ago and the mega-success of Cows on Parade in 1999. The dogs are of the form of a German Shepherd painted in whatever style the artist(s) imagine their representation to be.
Dubbed as K-9s for Cops, these fiberglass canines will be dotting the Mag mile during the summer. The art installations are a collaboration between the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and Chicago PAWS. The initiative honors police officers who died or were injured in the line of duty. There will be about two hundred of these dogs that will be eventually auctioned off to benefit PAWS Chicago in its effort to provide free veterinary care and neutering services to low-income residents.
